Manfred Korman was born in Hamburg, Germany. In 1938, when he was 6 years of age, the
Korman family was deported to Poland. In August of 1939, he left Poland as a Kindertransport
child and went to England. He remained in England until September of 1940 when he and his
older brother sailed to the United States and was greeted by his mother.
Manfred attended the public school system of New York City and completed a Bachelor of
Science and Master of Science degrees at Queens College. He served in the United States
Army from 1953-1955. In 1956 he began his career as a teacher of mathematics in Flushing,
Queens. He retired from the New York City Public School System in 1995 after having achieved
the position of principal of a junior high school. Upon retirement from the New York City school
system he was invited to become the executive director of the union representing school

The evening was a beautiful commemoration of the Holocaust. It also served as a reminder of how hate gains momentum, and that we must educate others and take collective responsibility to stand up to antisemitism.
I taught the Holocaust to seventh graders for many years. As a result, I found this very poignant, very sensitive, and extremely necessary in a world that is becoming increasingly desensitized to man’s inhumanity to others. This brought the message back Lest We Forget.
The stories are real. They are all around us. This event is so important for us to hear from the remaining survivors before they’re gone.
Thank you for highlighting the strength, bravery, and love of those who suffered the atrocities of the Holocaust. We can never forget the lives that were lost and the dreams that were shattered.
It was so impressive to see such a large audience of people from all different backgrounds, ages, and points of view.
Hearing a survivor’s story is something that will stay with me forever. I loved being part of an evening of interfaith and bridge-building.
It felt amazing to unite with people who are like-minded about the importance of using history to better inform the future.
The candle lighting and song at the end was so incredibly moving. It was very special to come together as a community.
Now, more than ever, it is so important that we come together to tackle hatred and antisemitism. The program was so poignant. Hearing a firsthand experience of a survivor was very powerful.
You did an absolutely incredible job with the Holocaust Remembrance evening! The night was inspiring, meaningful and powerful! … And listening to Rabbi Lazowski and Julia Rosner was very moving!
You could hear a pin drop in the pews – everyone was so inspired and touched throughout the entire evening! Again, kudos for a truly meaningful and much needed community wide event!
Every component was so well put together and so well done. The turnout was incredible! I hope this annual event continues for many years to come.
Thursday night’s program was superb! Everything about the evening was simply spectacular! Kol Hakavod to … your committee. So glad I got to be there!
What an amazing night! I know everyone was moved by this evening’s Holocaust Remembrance...Loved hearing the stories by individuals and have the cello and Madrigals sing with Dr Nash was heartwarming
What a special evening! You did an amazing job putting this together. So powerful and emotional! Thank you. It needs to be presented in the schools.
It was so wonderful to see the community come together for such an important event. It was a huge success on so many levels. All your hard work really paid off! Thank you for doing it!
